Back to School Night Scheduled for Thursday August 29th 2013

The Mount Jordan Back to School night is a long standing tradition, sponsored by the PTA, for students and families to come together and hear about upcoming events for the new school year, meet with teachers, faculty and PTA board members, and learn about ways to stay informed about issues relating to the school.

A free hot dog dinner is provided for Mount Jordan Students and their Families from 5:30pm - 6:30pm. Following dinner, there will be a brief meeting in the school Kiva at 6:30pm where parents and students will have the opportunity to hear from select faculty members about the upcoming school year. After the meeting in the Kiva, families are invited to walk around the school and meet with teachers and faculty until 7:30pm.

As this year's PTA board, we are working to accomplish numerous goals aimed at enriching the learning experience of students in and out of the classroom by providing them additional activities, recognition awards and support to teachers through monetary and volunteer efforts. There are multiple ways you can support the Students and Teachers of Mount Jordan:

  • Join the PTSA, we have Parent and Student memberships available
  • Order a Memory Book
  • Purchase a Mount Jordan T-shirt
  • Sign-up for volunteer opportunities

We hope to see most of you there as we celebrate the start of the new 2013-2014 school year.

Back to School Night, Thursday, August 30th

The Mount Jordan PTSA is proud to partner with Mount Jordan Middle School for Back to School Night!

When:  Thursday, August 30th

Time:  5:00 PM, Hot Dog Hello
6:00 PM, General Meeting in Auditorium
6:30 PM-8:30 PM, Meetings with Teachers

Where:  Picnic on the Front Lawn at 5:00 PM

Please come to the Hot Dog Hello!  (Sponsored by the PTSA)

What to expect?  Even if you have attended Back to School night in the past, we encourage you to come on August 30th!  We have a new principal, Dr. Molly Hart, and this will be a great time to meet her.  Additionally, we are welcoming several new teachers this year at Mount Jordan Middle School  You'll want to get to know your student's teachers. Other changes to core curriculum will be discussed in general, grade specific meetings.

If you can't make it for the entire time, please stop by for part of the evening.

What you can do to support PTSA  Please consider joining PTSA.  We will have a membership table set up for the entire night.  Your dues support an important national, state and local network of parents and teachers advocating on behalf of children.  We have several volunteer opportunities for parents, guardians, grandparents and other caregivers of our MJMS students.  Volunteer opportunities range from minimal commitment (dropping a food item off for teacher appreciation) to larger commitments like volunteering to manage the Reflections program at our school  We need DADS and Grandpas, too!  So, please don't let your schedule stop you from joining!

How can you support the students?  First, purchase a memory book!  Not only do the students receive a wonderful memento, but the proceeds go directly to our local PTSA to support student and teacher  programs.  Second, please consider making a donation to the PTSA as part of our "no hassle fundraiser."  Look for more information about this program to come out in the near future.

Utah PTA Day at the Capitol

The Utah State Legislature begins the 2012 session on Monday, January 23rd. One of the important functions of the PTA organization is to advocate on behalf of our children. The legislative session always brings new legislation that impacts our schools, our children and education policy. Please make sure you are informed and reach out to your elected officials to voice your opinion. Click HERE to view information about PTA's positions and the activities sponsored by PTA related to the legislative process.

Mark the date of February 24, 2012 on your calendar; this is the date of "Utah PTA Day at the Capitol". The schedule will include:

  • Updates on current legislation Utah PTA is addressing

  • An opportunity to meet and speak with your legislators

  • Seeing the legislative process in the House and Senate

  • Necessary business of PTA will be conducted, if needed

We would like to see the Capitol flooded with PTA members. All PTA members are welcome.
