The American Lung Association of Utah's "Open Airways for Schools" Program

Asthma is a disease that challenges the lives of more than 64,000 children in Utah. It accounts for more school absenteeism than any other chronic illness. While there is still no cure for asthma, it can be controlled through proper management. Education is the key to helping children with asthma learn how to manage their asthma so they can do things that other children do.

The American Lung Association of Utah's "Open Airways for Schools" program teaches children ages 8-11, with asthma how to detect the warning signs of asthma, and how to prevent asthma attacks. Through six, 40-minute lessons taught during or after school, volunteer instructors empower children through group discussions, stories, games, and role play to better manage their asthma. The ALAU is conducting a volunteer instructor training on Wednesday, November 5th at LDS Hospital Education Building from 5:30- 7:30 pm. (Dinner included). This program is free to the school, children, and volunteers. If you're interested in being an instructor, please contact Cherissa Wood at cwood@lungutah.org or 801-931-6992.
